What is a Dignity at work policy?

A dignity at work policy is a set of guidelines and procedures that aim to promote respectful and fair treatment of all employees in the workplace. The policy sets out the standards of behaviour expected from both employees and management, and outlines the steps that will be taken to prevent and address incidents of harassment, discrimination, bullying, and other forms of inappropriate behaviour.

A dignity at work policy may cover a range of issues, including:

  • Discrimination on the basis of age, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, or other protected characteristics.
  • Bullying or harassment, whether it is verbal, physical, or psychological in nature.
  • Sexual harassment, including unwanted sexual advances, requests for sexual favours, and other forms of sexual misconduct.
  • Intimidation or retaliation against employees who report incidents of inappropriate behaviour.

Overview

Our company is committed to fostering a respectful and inclusive workplace for all employees. This policy aims to promote dignity, equality, and mutual respect in all interactions.

Scope

This policy applies to all employees, contractors, and visitors. It covers all work-related activities, including communication, behavior, and conduct on company premises or during work-related events.

General principles

Prohibited Conduct

We strictly prohibit any form of harassment, discrimination, bullying, or offensive behaviour based on race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic.

Responsibilities

All employees are responsible for treating each other with dignity and respect. Managers must address complaints promptly and take appropriate corrective action.

What should I do if subject to Harassment?

If you feel you are being harassed you are strongly encouraged to seek early advice/support from your line manager. If your feel your line manager is harassing you, then you should contact his / her immediate line manager. You can also use our confidential reporting system.

You should also keep a written record detailing the incidents of harassment and any requests made to the harasser to stop. This written record should be made as soon as possible after the events giving rise to concern and should include dates, times, places and the circumstances of what happened.

Investigation and Resolution

All complaints will be promptly and impartially investigated. Appropriate action will be taken to address violations and prevent future occurrences.

Non-Retaliation

We prohibit retaliation against individuals who raise concerns in good faith or participate in investigations related to this policy.

Training and Awareness

We will provide training to employees to raise awareness of this policy and promote a culture of dignity and respect.

Review and Updates

This policy will be regularly reviewed and updated to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with applicable laws.

Consequences

Breaches of this policy may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
